Understanding How Common Congenital Heart Disease Is in the UK?

Congenital heart disease is the most common birth defect in the UK, affecting approximately 1 in every 100 babies.

This means that around 13 babies are diagnosed each day.

Advances in medical care have significantly improved survival rates, with over 98% of children now reaching adulthood.

As a result, there is a growing population of adults living with congenital heart conditions who require ongoing specialist care.

Improved screening during pregnancy and after birth has also helped identify more cases early.
